Back in the hospital

I had not posted because things were going really well. Mom was doing great at rehab, walking with a walker, starting to have a liquid diet. They actually were planning her discharge to home for the end of this week. And then on Monday she was really weak and confused. On Tuesday, she had a fever and they gave her IV antibiotics and she pulled out the IV so they sent her to Shady Grove ER. So she is now in a room in Shady Grove Hospital.
These are my notes from today so far:
8/20/09

Dr. Mathers (infectious disease doctor) came in at 12:54pm; Mom has entrococis (bacteria) in urine, some type of staph in blood; port is most likely infected- Dr. Mathers needs to speak to Interventional radiology; he thinks it will be tomorrow before Mom can get the port removed. He is also going to talk to the main doctor about Mom getting PT and clear liquids. She is going to be here for at least 7-10 days.

A nurse just came in to say that a new doctor ordered an 1800 calorie diabetic diet for her! Luckily Dad and I were here, apparently she is not longer under the care of the hospitalist but some other doctor. The nurse is going to get more information and find out if she can get the clear liquids that she had at the rehab facility.

Okay the nurse and patient advocate were both here. Apparently when I said that I wanted her under the care of the hospitalist and NOT under her old doctor's care, they chose to do the exact opposite. And her old doctor is on vacation so this random doctor who does not know her, decided to order her food! I am so pissed off right now, if Dad and I were not here, she would have eaten it and her stomach would have blown up and we would have been back to the beginning. I am honestly horrified that a random doctor would order food for her that could potentially really harm her.

I am hoping that the rehab facility will take her back whenever the infection is cleared up. She just needs to get home.
